Greek Food In Calgary – Part Of The My Hometown Series

I recently celebrated my 50th birthday. Part of that celebration included a family lunch. It was the best time for everyone to get together.

My future son-in-law suggested a restaurant he had recently heard about. A Greek restaurant called Plaka. It was close by and I love Greek food. Greek it was!

Outside, it looked like many other restaurants located in an outdoor mall. Inside though, was a fresh, clean, crisp Greek atmosphere. Gentle blues and checkered tableclothes. Family owned and family run.

As we entered, I inhaled deeply because the smells were so delicious. My daughter and son-in-law were running a little late but this restaurant does not rush you. We ordered some hummous to start. I forgot to take a picture because it looked so good and the pita bread warm and fresh. I ate it before I remembered. Next time!

What I did remember to take a picture of was my husbands and my own food. He ordered a lamb dish. Greek lamb is known to be the best! For myself, I ordered Chicken Souvlaki.

Yes, I had begun eating. I simply couldn’t help myself.

If you could only smell the odors that drifted from kitchen, you would of been in the same boat as me.

Which brings me to my husbands dish. I had to try it.

Frankly, I don’t like lamb. However, I should of ordered it. My husbands was amazing. It had no wild taste and was so tender and amazing. Next time.

I was not disappointed with mine. Don’t get me wrong. It was just as delightful and fresh. An item I would not hesitate to order again.

You can see the crisp Greek salad on the sides of plates. Divine! I cannot wait for Next Time.

I totally recommend this restaurant to visitors and hometowners that enjoy wonderful Greek food!

This looks very good, I’ll have to try this restaurant. Sometimes it’s the small places that don’t stand out that have the best food.

  2. Thanks for sharing Tina! One of the things we’ve noticed most moving here to Calgary from Toronto was the lack of quality dining. I am very happy to try out a new restaurant! Have you come across any good Chinese places? We haven’t had any luck on that front yet.
