The other day I was having a conversation with a friend. They had been in a meeting discussing work related issues. It suddenly to occured to my friend that everyone seemed to be carrying this huge chip around on their shoulder.
I laughed and told them that a year ago, they never would of noticed that. Why? Simply because they were just as angry.
It start me thinking later that day. I’ve been noticing a lot of anger and frustration both online and offline. So what’s making everyone so angry?
I’m not talking about the person with the occasional issue or offhand comment. We all have our days. Certainly, I do. What I’m thinking about are those people who seem to be always seeing a cup half empty. Vengeance seems to be the choice of the day and problems are pursed relentlessly. People are just nasty to one another. Stabbing someone in the back is commonplace.
Frankly, I don’t get it. I understand the country has economic issues. We’ve been there before and yet, we are one of the luckiest countries out there at the moment. Is lack of work to blame for all the anger? Maybe goverment lies? Too many demands? Too much technology? All of the above?
I don’t know.
What I do know is this. I am alive. I am a survivor. My family is in good health. I can’t change the world in one day. I can only take steps to change my own situation.
The Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Or, as we used to say in the ’70’s – “Chill”
