Reading Rainbow is now a fantastic free app for children ages 3 to 9.
When you first download this app, Levar Burton welcomes you and highlights a few of the things you can expect on Reading Rainbow such as video tours. Then it’s time to register and fill out your childs name and your email address.
This is a very simple app that has hundreds of books and videos for kids to choose from. Children visit a themed island like Animal Kingdom or My Friends and choose a book or video of interest.
Here’s the app on my ipad. A beautiful clear picture isn’t it?
Reading Rainbow offers one free book so that you can try out this magical app with no obligations. Should you decide you’d like this for your child you can pay monthly at 9.99 or every six months for 29.99. This will give you unlimited books and entertainment.
The book I chose was Hannah Hippo’s Horrible Hiccups. You can choose to read the book yourself or have a celebrity read it to you. Here’s where it gets fun. Your reading buddy, Austin, joins you and explains all the exciting things you can do while reading your book. I don’t want to give it all away but will tell you the pages can come to life in front of your eyes. You just have to interact with them.
This is truly a delightful opportunity for parents to encourage their child in reading. They can even get rewarded for the number of books they read. I’d really love for you to download this app and try it for free. Reading Rainbow will be adding new books and videos all the time. Watch the amazement and laughter on your childs face. It’s simply beautiful.
Note: The app ran smoothly with clear sound and pictures. I found explanations to be simple enough for all children to follow. Definitely a five-star app in my opinion.

We have been a part of this wonderful App for several months now. Our daughter has amazed us on this App. She is improved 2 reading levels over the summer. The first day she read 13 books. It has changed our lives and I hope that something of its sort will be created to support older age groups as well. Thank you Reading Rainbow….
How cute! I’m really starting to love these little apps for kids and this one looks like a fun one that I could enjoy with my daughter.
I love Reading Rainbow! Well, I do and my granddaughter does and my youngest son does as well. It is an excellent program to help promote a love of reading for children, which I think is really important. My 2 oldest boys hate to read for leisure despite the fact that I love it. My youngest son has more of a love for reading than they ever did or will…I always told him that reading well was the most important skill of all because if you know how to read, you can read about any other topic and learn more that way. There is no other skill except reading that can open so many other doors to further reading and learning.
Geesh, everything keeps getting technologically advanced and pretty soon all our children will be reading fluently and 3..;-)
