On August 25, 2012, I had the privilege of attending the first annual (we hope) Stars Big Water Lake fundraiser event put on by Alberta Insulation.
Right here, I’ll make a quick note and compliment Alberta Insulation for providing shuttle service to and from the event. That may seem like a no brainer given the circumstances but it really isn’t something that’s done often enough. I also compliment the many, many people that used the shuttle.
Bruce and his great team of sponsors and volunteers, put together a terrific event. There were water sport demonstrations, a golf chipping contest followed by a wonderful roast beef dinner.
Speeches were given after dinner by a representative of Stars, Angela Blixt, and Jason who now works with Stars after a head on collision put him in close contact with the group. Too close! They saved his life! A drunk driver going the wrong way hit him head on out by Deadmans Flats. Ironic? Thankfully he had STARS.
This was followed by the most entertaining live auction which reached feverish pitches at points. Everyone was having a great time for a terrific cause. At the back of the room you could see many donated items that were up for silent auction. Yes, yours truly got in there too! I’m please to announce that I am now the proud owner of an Ovechkin signed jersey and a Mike Green Game Stick which is going to be autographed.
Music followed and dancing ensued. The event raised approx $35,000 for STARS!!! Tell me that’s not an amazing 1st time out of the gate!
