I hate January! It’s cold outside. Bitterly cold and I have no desire to venture out into the great outdoors. Especially for a dose of exercise. The temperature inside is much more appealing. It’s cozy and I have the fireplace on. I find myself sitting on the couch watching t.v.
Then comes the food. Oh, the food! Those holiday leftovers. All the goodies I made to spoil friends and family with. Everything from cookies to bars and yes, even tarts. That’s not all though! I bought cookies too! Shortbreads! I suck at making them so bought them instead.
There’s more though. How about the chocolates? There’s those I bought, those I was given and then the ones that Santa snuck under the tree. Wait! I’m not done! The chips and cheesies and dips. Oy! It never ends.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. You don’t have to eat it. Give it away. Well, I did that too. Yet, I’m still swamped. Always am in January. I have to eat it. It’s just the way I was brought up. “Waste not, want not” and all that.
It’s no wonder that one of the most common resolutions, to lose weight, rarely succeeds. It’s called January!
