This past weekend we decided to meet up with our oldest daughter and son-in-law. No one had a lot of time so something quick was needed. We chose a burger joint that was new to all of us.
We went to South St Burger. For two reasons. One was to have an above average burger and two because they also have New York Fries.
Okay, I thought those two things. However, I made three mistakes.
The first is that their burgers are not above average. They are simply average. Are they better than fast food? No, they are about equal to fast food with the exception that they ask you what you want on your burger.
My second mistake was thinking that because the sign said “New York Fries” that they’d be up to standard. Uh uh! I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Perhaps it was a new fry guy. However, I’d suggest NYF pop in to see if the fries being produced under their name is up to their own standards.
The third mistake is thinking I’d get what I pay for. By this I mean quality. I’ve paid an above average price for a burger before. Heck, why not? Nothing beats a fresh, gourmet, loaded to the hilt, juicy burger. Unfortunately, none of these words described the burger I had.
The entire menu screamed overpriced. The shakes were thin and lacked flavour and the pop, well, it’s pop!
Trust me when I say, if you want average, then spend 30% less and visit Burger King, McDonalds or A&W. If you want outstanding then visit Five Guys or find THE burger joint in your town. In Calgary we have Rocky’s. Open only a few hours and come straight off a refurbished bus but are dynamite. Oh yeah, they cost less too! Or how about our Boogie Burgers? They’ve been on “You’ve Gotta Here” and cost about the same as South St. I haven’t been yet, but I plan too!
So, ok, these are my opinions. We all have different taste buds. Just sayin’ “you don’t always get what you pay for” or think you’re paying for.
