Vegas Baby! Yes, I Spent A Few Days There For Less Than Expected

Back in mid-August, my husband surprised me with a trip to Vegas!! Weather in Calgary had been cool and rainy for the majority of the summer. Jokingly, I said to him, you need to take me to Vegas where the sun is shining and the temperature is hot. Guess what, he did and it was wonderful!!

Fortunately, you don’t have to be a gambler to go to Vegas, there are many other things to do. Although, we do like to play the slots.

We stayed at the Mirage, a hotel we’d never stayed at before. The rooms were comfy and staff was pleasant. The casino offered a way better exchange rate than our bank in Canada! What’s with that? So, if you’re planning a trip, contact your hotel a few days in advance to see what they are offering.

The best place to eat at the Mirage is the pantry. Reasonably priced and great food. They also provide the room service food which was a great price. However, the buffet there was awful! Seriously, they need to take a good look at it and make changes. Their pool is wonderful and we spent a number of hours there each day. This is no charge to anyone staying at the resort! However, avoid buying drinks at the pool. Unless you want to pay a whopping $9! Stick to the bottled water, it’s $6 for a 1L.

Sooooo Good but huge portion. You might want to share with a friend!

Across the street, you’ll find the Casino Royale. Michalobe beer sells for a buck a bottle or bud light for $2. At the back, you can purchase cheap eats!! You’ll also find that the Casino Royale is the best place on the strip to get Vegas souvenirs like hats, T’s and more.

Also, be sure to check out the Volcano in front of the Mirage, the conservatory at Bellagio, the musical water event in front of the Bellagio, all of which are free. Plus, you’ll want to download the Vegas.com app. It has so much info to make your Vegas vacation less expensive. Don’t forget to book a show through them as well. You’ll get a good rate.

Booking your vacation through Vegas.com will save you bucks too! Prices are in US funds, but even with the exchange rate, it was less expensive than booking through Westjet or Air Canada. Silly thing is, our flight was booked through Vegas.com with Air Canada!! Crazy!

We had a wonderful, exhausting time. We put on many miles and enjoyed all the sites. Here’s hoping we get back soon!! When I do, I’ll look for more bargains!
