It’s Breakfast Time – Yes, It’s Still Important

We all know that breakfast is important. In fact, we find ourselves discussing the issue with our children. Sometimes, going out of our way to make it more interesting and appetizing for them. We’ve even created breakfast on the go, for those of us in a hurry.

However, up until five or six years ago, my morning routine, more often than not, included skipping breakfast. Naturally, I made something for my kids, but usually stuck with a cup of tea on my end. I simply couldn’t stomach food first thing in the morning.

Several years ago, I changed my attitude, and began to incorporate a small breakfast into my day. In fact, I took my own advice.  Repeatedly, I told my children that the first meal of the day could contain pretty much anything. For instance, my oldest daughter used to enjoy eating dinner leftovers. Nothing wrong with that. So, I began small. Namely, a nibble of cheese or a few crackers. Anything, is better than nothing. Today, I rotate what I eat, so I don’t get bored. I still don’t go all out, but rather eat enough to get me started. Such as,

Yogurt and granola
1/2 cup cereal with 1/4 cup milk
1 boiled egg and a slice of toast with butter
1/2 grapefruit with 1 slice toast and peanut butter
Fresh fruit
Remember, breakfast IS important. However, it doesn’t have to be typical breakfast food. Just avoid the sugary stuff.

Let me know, what’s your routine? Fan, or not?
